Franciska NeuhauserBBS, Dip.Counselling, MNZANLPI am a member of the New Zealand Association of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NZANLP) and as such, I work within the guidelines of NZANLP's Code of Ethics. Academically, I hold a Diploma of Professional Counselling through the New Zealand Institute of Professional Counselling (NZIPC), NLP Practitioner Certification through the International Association for NLP (IANLP), and a Bachelor of Business Studies through Massey University. |
In addition, I have undertaken professional development courses in Mindfulness, Imago Relationship Therapy, and the Grief Experience. I am also certified in Advanced Suicide Prevention (Screening and Triage) and Volunteer Palliative Care.
On a practical level, I follow a pluralistic approach towards therapy - which means I recognise that every client is an individual, who will require different therapeutic approaches, at different times, and for different issues. To that affect, I am continually learning about and harnessing a variety of therapies so that I can best meet the needs of my clients. Furthermore, I believe in working with the client in finding out what approach will be the most beneficial for them, with the flexibility to change approaches during the therapeutic process as necessary.
On a personal level, I am a solo parent to a teenaged girl who at the age of ten developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) - an incurable neurological condition which left her in so much pain that she was unable to walk, sleep, or even attend school. As such, I have first-hand experience of the grief, fears, challenges, anxieties, and isolation experienced by parents of a child with a chronic illness and/or disability.
Many years earlier, when I was in my early 20s, my father was diagnosed with colorectal cancer which had metastasized. For 18 months I was by my father's side as he attended treatments and I translated for him during doctor/specialist appointments. He took his final breath in Hospice - which ignited my passion not only to give back to Hospice through voluntary work, but to provide companionship, comfort, and space to explore emotions as patients and their families navigate the challenges presented by terminal illness.
